Ceiftain’s Ardbeg 12y 1998

Had the opportunity to try this dram last Saturday thanks to Måns.
Chieftain’s 1998, Ardbeg 12yo 43% abv.
Bottled by Ian Macleod.

Quick review:
Nose ?
Pleasant smoke with some sweet notes and some sea salt.

Palate ?
The smoke is quite the same on the palate not weaker or stronger, hints banana and overall pretty smooth.

Finish ?
Medium long. Some floral notes comes through ?

Overall a good one but nothing extra over the top. It could be that this was like the 8th peated whisky I tried and maybe i was quite numb of all the whiskies I’ve tried.
This was baought on an acution, because its quite rare and not produced anymore.

Ardbeg Traigh Bhan 19 YO

A new Ardbeg whisky is going to be released 2019-09-19 at systembolaget(ArticleNr: 40577) here in sweden. It will be listed for 1799:- and
is going to be included in the core family with the others like An oa, Uigeadail , corryvreckan…
Traigh Bhan is pronounced ‘Tri-Van’ and the plan is to make up a batch of Traigh Bhan each year which will be available in limited quantities.

This will be alot more expensive compared to the others but a review on this one in the future will determine if its worth its price.

Ardbeg Drum limited release

The first post on this blog will be the Ardbeg drum. It was released during the Islay festival recently and it is going for that carnival feel and tasting notes. Also the packaging is going for the exotic vibe.

It has been resting in ex-bourbon casks and is finished in american ex-rum casks to give it that pineapple and ripe banana flavours along with some classic Ardbeg peat.

Funny story to this bottle is that here in Sweden it’s only the systembolaget that is allowed to import liquor to Sweden and it is also the only place you can buy liquor and take home with you. So when this bottle was announced to be released the 5th of July my friend queued before the opening the store. To my surprise he called in panic and told me there where 30 persons queued like him.
Some took several bottles and the stock on that store was only 24 pieces so every one was “fighting” to get a bottle.

We was lucky to get one bottle each and I’m looking forward to try it and give a review here on the blog in the future.
